This wall sculpture is not only impressive but also operates in a mesmerizing way through kinetic energy. After winding it, the spring and internal gears work in unison to move the front and rear wheels in alternating patterns for as long as 14 hours.

Style 2 Vice Versa
I played around with various spring counts, thicknesses, and angles. Ultimately, I developed designs that are both visually striking and dynamic. I confirmed the patterns by creating animated simulations of the designs. However, the true challenge lay in animating the designs. My initial attempt was not quite as balanced as I wanted it to be. After making adjustments and better calculating the center of mass, I was able to determine the precise point more accurately. My second attempt ended up succeeding completely.

One side of the design resembles unfurling fans, while the other side expands outward. As these movements become apparent, everything is displayed in a flickering pattern. The ever-changing rotational speeds along with this design create an artwork that's simply irresistible.

More intricate patterns that come with these wheels typically require a more subtle motion compared to simpler designs to avoid visual clutter. The duality represents what I perceive as a more intricate asymmetrical wheel design. To fully understand the produced patterns, the mechanism needs to move the wheels in a predictable manner. In contrast, sculptures like infinity feature symmetrical wheels, which is why I chose a random and unpredictable mechanism in that case. Following the design of the wheel for duality, I began experimenting with various movements to discover the most visually captivating combination. After finding the right equilibrium, I created a true sculpture!


How they operate:

Hamster! Just kidding. Each of my kinetic sculptures operates like a wooden machine driven by a perpetually wound spring. While they are visually attractive even when stationary, their charm truly unfolds in motion. A simple winding is all it takes to initiate movement and subtle sounds that can last varying durations. Achieving longer operation times has always been my ambition. Some versions can run for 1.5 hours, while others stretch up to 24 hours! This marks a substantial improvement from my earlier designs, which ceased after just 20 minutes.

Next, we perform movement tests (this may take 7-10 days based on the project); once everything is verified and adjusted if required, we apply a glossy finish to improve the look and protect the piece from pests and mold.
